Name? Michael Steven Baldwin
Where do you live? East Sussex – UK
What camera and equipment do you use? Canon 550D, 18-55mm lens, 50mm 1.8 lens, Tamron 10-24mm lens, cheapo tripod, cheapo remote shutter
When did you start photography? 2007
What made you first start photography? I went to Thailand in 2007 for my sister's wedding, I bought a Canon IXUS 850i as it was my first trip abroad and I wanted to capture every moment. I haven’t stopped since then!
Is photography your full time job? No, during the day I am a graphic designer.
Why do you love photography? It's a great way to escape. Standing in the silent countryside, watching a beautiful sunset and then being able to share it with the world is an amazing feeling!
What photography styles/techniques do you prefer? HDR and panoramic
How do you stay inspired? Who inspires you? Websites like 500px and Deviant Art art an amazing way to get inspiration. There are so many amazing photographers out there that are barely known. Hopefully you will see more of their work in later posts!
Do you sell your work? Is it a business? Yes, I own Wreck Photography which is a business (the tax man knows about me!) I sell bespoke canvas and prints.
How do you promote your work? I am on 500px, deviant art, sometimes flickr, my blog, twitter and facebook.
Which is your favourite image and why? One of my favourites is “MTV cribs is due next week”. It took 40 minutes of crawling in underground tunnels using my phone as a torch, when we finally crawled up through a rotten floor we were confronted with this bizarre set up! It's amazing feeling when you are confronted with something you can't wait to photograph!
What is your best memory from photography? I have a photograph from our wedding day of me taking a picture of my wife and 3 year old nephew. Though it isn’t my picture I love it. Also, selling my first image. It was a huge 2 meter image of Eastbourne Pier. Seeing one of my images printed that size was awesome!
What advice would you give to anyone thinking of starting photography? Try not to get caught up in the popularity contest. You may take a photo that you love, upload it to a site and get no views. It doesn’t matter. Be proud of images you take and bear with it!
